Read: John 15:1-8

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me (John 15:4)

In John 15:7, the Lord Jesus revealed the importance of abiding in Him and in the Word of God. To abide in Christ means; to remain, stay and vitally connected to Christ. Note that Jesus Christ is the Word of God (John 1:1). We are told that He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God (Revelation 19:13). Therefore, abiding in Christ is to abide in the Word of God. Are you abiding in Christ? Jesus said, I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing (John 15:5). This means that you can do nothing without the Word of God. Christianity is far more than holding right beliefs or adopting right behaviours. The Christian faith is about union and communion with Jesus Christ. Union with Christ without communion with Christ and the Holy Spirit is joyless Christianity. Today, Jesus invites you to abide in Him. He says, “ABIDE IN ME, AND I IN YOU” (John 15:4). We (the branches) are to be connected to Him (the vine) for our life and sustenance. Only in Him can we bear fruit (John 15:5). Any branch that disconnects from the vine will die. Similarly, a Christian who fails to abide in Christ or remain connected to Christ will die spiritually. Remember, as Christians we tap our life from Christ, the Word of God. Abiding in Christ is an experience. In fact, people must see it and you must manifest it in your daily life and decisions. John 15:1-7 teaches us the following: You manifest fruit bearing. You manifest growth in the spirit, grace and knowledge. You manifest emptiness without Christ. You manifest genuine repentance and holiness. You seek the will of God and live to please God in all your ways/decisions. Are you abiding in Christ? The next devotional messages will cover how to abide in Christ. Jesus said: “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you” (John 15:7). May the Lord answer you speedily as you abide in Him in Jesus Name.
